Coverage Designed for the Road Ahead

Whether you're commuting to work, taking a family road trip, or simply running errands around town, the right auto insurance helps protect you from life's unexpected detours.

At the Thompson Insurance Agency, we believe auto insurance should do more than meet a requirement. It should provide confidence every time you turn the key. We're a family-owned Fort Collins agency serving drivers across Loveland, Windsor, and Northern Colorado since 1969, licensed in Colorado and Wyoming.

What's covered

What your auto policy covers.

Every Thompson auto policy is built from these core coverages.

01

Liability Protection

Provides financial protection if you're responsible for injuries or property damage resulting from an accident.

02

Collision Coverage

Helps repair or replace your vehicle after a covered collision, regardless of who is at fault.

03

Comprehensive Coverage

Protects your vehicle from life's non-collision surprises, including hail, theft, vandalism, fire, falling objects, and more.

04

Uninsured & Underinsured Motorist Coverage

Provides protection when another driver causes an accident but doesn't carry enough insurance, or any insurance at all.

05

Medical Payments Coverage

Helps cover medical expenses for you and your passengers following a covered accident, so you can focus on recovery.

Who this is for

Built for NoCo drivers.

Auto insurance pays off most reliably for three specific groups in Colorado. The policies are nearly identical but the conversation looks a little different for each.

01 · Commuters

Commuters.

Driving I-25, College Avenue, or Harmony Road every day means more time on the road and more exposure to Colorado's uninsured drivers. Roughly one in seven, by some estimates. We make sure commuters carry enough liability and uninsured motorist protection to actually hold up if someone without coverage hits them.

02 · New CO Residents

New Colorado residents.

Moving to Fort Collins means your out-of-state policy needs to meet Colorado's 25/50/15 minimum, and your old rate probably isn't the right rate here anymore. We help new residents get street-legal fast and shop the policy properly instead of just rolling over what they had before.

03 · High-Value & New Vehicles

High-value and newer vehicle owners.

A newer car or a higher-value vehicle loses money to depreciation the moment it's titled and standard coverage only pays actual cash value if it's totaled. Gap and new car replacement coverage close that gap, and we make sure the liability and comprehensive limits actually match what the vehicle is worth.

Auto FAQ

Questions we get a lot.

If your question isn't here, call us. We'd rather answer it on the phone than read about it in a help center.

Colorado requires liability coverage of at least 25/50/15: $25,000 in bodily injury liability per person, $50,000 per accident, and $15,000 in property damage liability per accident. That's the legal floor to register and drive in the state, but it does not cover your own vehicle or your own injuries, and it's often not enough to fully cover a serious accident. We typically recommend higher limits, plus collision and comprehensive, for anyone with high value assets or a newer vehicle to protect.
It depends on the policy and whether you've added the right coverage. Some auto policies extend collision and comprehensive coverage to a rental car automatically; for others, it's an optional add-on. We'll check your specific policy before you rent, so you're not stuck guessing at the counter or paying for coverage you already have.
Roughly 1 in 7 Colorado drivers is uninsured at any given time, so this comes up more than people expect. Uninsured/underinsured motorist (UM/UIM) coverage is not automatically required in Colorado, but insurers must offer it, and it stays on your policy unless you reject it in writing. It pays for your injuries (and in some cases vehicle damage) when the at-fault driver has no insurance or not enough to cover what you're owed. We generally recommend keeping it rather than waiving it. The cost difference is small relative to what it can cover.
